Customer Reviews about M.D. Express Urgent Care - Newport News

  • First keep in mind this is an urgent care center not your regular family practice. All types of people come here on a walk in basis. The medical staff is not seeing the same routine visits that a family practice office would see. With that being said you may have to wait no matter what urgent care center you go to. You never know what will come through the door and especially what goes on in the back. I'm sure as with the other urgent care places emergency visits take priority. So if you are sitting there for a long time just think you do not know what's going on and be thankful it's not you with all the issues in the back. That's how I look at it. My visit was on 4/24/17. The front desk person was pleasant. There were 3 people ahead of me. It took a little over 1 1/2hrs to be called back. Again, as I said above who knows what was going on in the back so I couldn't get upset. The lady who took my vitals did not have much of a bedside manner. I am in the medical field so I feel people who are hands on with patients really need to have a pleasant way about them. She didn't but that wouldn't make me not go back there. The PA I saw was wonderful! Extremely friendly, knowledgeable and overall was awesome. The lady who gave me my discharge instructions was very pleasant as well. Overall my visit was 2hrs. The facility was very clean both in the waiting area and the exam room. I would go back to this location if I cannot get in with my family doctor again.

Stay AWAY. Stay FAR FAR AWAY. I have had the worst experiences at this M.D. Express location. If you have a problem the nice people will talk to you about it but refer you to a Mystery Manager who is never there and that you will never be able to speak with. You can email them but you will not get a response when you do. My son was checked in for a cut on his lip and only after "seeing" the doctor are we told that he does not work on children's faces or mouths and refers us to the ER at Riverside. After many calls it is discovered that they have a policy of this and never should have admitted him in the first place. They could have turned us away at the front. As it seems once you are "checked in" weighed and measured and see to a room they have cause to bill you or your insurance company and that they did. I was charged and sent to collections for a Doctor telling me he could not help my child. We went to Riverside ER and were seen and treated in less than 20 minutes. It took longer to be seen by the Doctor at M.D. Express. They simply used glue to fix my sons lip and for that we paid quite a bit to the ER and billed for the Med Express visit as well. Before I even received the first bill for my sons visit I had reason to seek medical help from M.D. Express for an irritated eye. I was unfortunate enough to get the same Doctor. I left worse off then I came with now both eyes red . After two days of taking the medicine they prescribed with no relief or getting worse by the hour I returned for the a follow up. They had said to come back and so I did. This time a different doctor was no help and didn't want to do anything. By now both eyes were bright red and infected and hurt badly. I had to all but beg for a prescription that would actually help. The previous one I discovered was for preventative only. A week later I get billed for both visits at twice the rate had I paid cash in the office. I also received a bill for my sons visit as well. FYI they charge the insurance company the MAX allowable to see how much they can get. Self Pay is at a big discount. This is not disclosed and you would not know otherwise. I was outraged to have been charged for the followup and now having had time to think about it was just as mad that I got worse and not better from the care I received from M.D. Express. I called and complained but the manager could only forward my concerns up the ladder to the Mystery Manager. I received no more calls or emails from M.D. Express until a letter shows up from them apologizing to me for my visit and my sons. I thought the matter resolved until I receive another bill from M.D. Express. I call again and complain and get a different manager at this location and go through this all again. This time no response for some time and then the Mystery Manager's Secretary calls and they are going to write off my sons visit but I own them in full for my visits. Not happy about this I tell them that I would never dream of paying for them to send my son away to the ER and that I want the matter investigated. Again I no one calls or emails me and I receive yet another bill and then a collection notice. After trying to go through the billing dept as suggested by someone at the N.N. office I was now having to make my case all over again with new people. I mentioned the apology letter and am told the Mystery Manager says it has nothing to do with me. I have to send the letter to prove it. Weeks of back and forth with the billing dept the manager decides that the dates mentioned in the apology letter should be written off. The problem is the letter did not mention the followup. The manager ends up hanging up on me after telling me they will review the matter. Two emails one from the manager I spoke with and a second from her supervisor says she stands by the first managers decision. Email finally from the Mystery Manager saying no one will ever contact me again the matter is closed. A letter comes in the mail two days later banning myself and my son from all M.D.Express!!
